Rates - PrepayPower Ireland

Standard unit rates are the price you pay for the electricity you consume. Units are calculated in kilowatts per hour or kwh. The amount of the standard unit rate depends on the type of rate that is applicable to you (see the rates table for details).

Your Standing Charge covers the costs of getting electricity to your home including the wiring network and a share of the supply costs in servicing your account. They are charged by all suppliers and they vary by supplier. Maintaining up to date meter readings helps us reduce such costs. The Standing Charge will vary depending on whether you have a 24hr/NightSaver meter or if you have a Rural or Urban tariff (see table below for details).

The Public Service Obligation (PSO) levy is a mandatory charge that is the same amount regardless of the electricity provider you choose. It covers the generation of indigenous fuels (e.g. Peat) and renewable energy. It is mandated by Government and approved by the European Commission. The levy is used to contribute to the additional costs incurred by the ESB and other electricity generators which are not recovered by the standing charges. From October 1st 2020, the Government imposed Public Service Obligation levy (the PSO levy) which all Electricity Customers must pay will increase. From that date, the Government will set the PSO levy at €7.40 per month.

There is also a daily prepayment service charge covers the costs of maintenance of the Pay-As-You-Go service. This includes the ongoing supply and maintenance of the PrepayPower Smart Pay-As-You-Go system.

Get our Smart Control System installed in your home without any upfront fees or deposits. This is the recommended option as it works out as the cheapest way to pay over your first 12 months with PrepayPower. A daily Prepayment service charge of 37.46 cent applies to this option to cover the cost of the ongoing maintenance of the Smart Control System. See the rates for this option below:

Signing up to PrepayPower is subject to terms and conditions including a 12 month initial period. Termination in the initial period incurs penalty fees including an early termination fee of €11.25 per month (or part thereof) of the unexpired period of the initial term. For details of all applicable charges see Schedule of Charges.

Alternatively, you can choose this option to pay €250 upfront for the Smart Control System. By choosing this option you would reduce your daily prepayment service charge from 37.46 cent per day to just 2.83 cent per day.

Carbon Tax at a rate of 0.535c including VAT (0.471c ex VAT) per kWh is applied to all natural gas customers. This rate is the same for all gas suppliers.
