How is my oil charged?
You're charged this week for the oil you used last week. For example, let’s say you used oil worth €49 worth in total last week (Saturday to Friday). We divide the charges by 7(€49/7 = €7) and deduct them from your electricity meter in equal amounts each day this week.
How does Pay-As-You-Go Oil pricing work?
The pricing for our Pay-As-You-Go Oil service has two parts.
-
Cost Per Litre. The rate you pay for each litre of oil you consume. We base our cost-per-litre rate on the latest (and most competitive) market prices.
-
Daily Standing Charge. Our 79-cent daily standing charge covers the supply, installation and maintenance of your sensor.
And here’s what the sensor gives you in return:
✓ No running dry or arranging deliveries. The sensor monitors your oil usage and tank and lets us know when you need a delivery.
✓ Total Control. It also tells you exactly how much oil you're using so you can control your usage and reduce your costs.
Am I spending more on oil than I used to?
The price of home heating oil has doubled over the last year due to global inflation and the energy crisis. *And in Ireland, the upfront cost of filling a 500L oil tank is often as much as €740.
But there are no upfront costs with Pay-As-You-Go Oil. You pay for your oil as you use it in smaller, more manageable amounts. Also, you can control and reduce your oil usage by tracking it with your PrepayPower app.
Will I have to top up by more each week?
Yes. Because you'll need to top up by enough to cover your weekly oil and electricity costs – both of which get deducted from your PrepayPower meter. The additional weekly top-up amount will depend on how much oil you use.
In winter, when you use your heating most, this could be as much as two to three times higher than your weekly top-up amount for electricity. But your oil usage, and therefore costs, will be a lot lower during the warmer spring and summer.
Need help staying on top of your energy costs? No problem. Just switch on the handy Auto Top-Up or Savings feature in your app.
What will my weekly oil costs look like?
That depends on the season, the size and age of your home, and how much oil you use.
It’s important to remember that, on average, 77% of your oil costs occur between October and March.
For example, in spring or summer, you might spend an average of €14 a week. However, during a cold week in winter, that could rise to anywhere between €55 and €70.
These are estimates to give you an idea of what to expect. But as we learn more about you, we’ll deliver personal insights to your PrepayPower app that will help control your usage and costs year-round.
