How the €250 Government Electricity Credit Works
Everything you need to know about when and how you will receive your electricity credit payments from PrepayPower.
When Will I Receive My €250 Government Electricity Credit?
Budget 2025 included €250 credit for all eligible domestic electricity customers.
The electricity credit will be paid in two €125 instalments. Households will receive the first payment in November 2024 and the second in January 2025.
PrepayPower customers will be paid their credit instalments within the following dates:
- First instalment: Between November 1st and 7th, 2024.
- Second instalment: From January 1st, 2025.

How Will PrepayPower Apply the €250 Electricity Credit to My Account?
The €250 government electricity credit payment will be applied to your account according to your PrepayPower service.
Here is how our SmartPay and Classic Pay customers will receive the two €125 instalments.
SmartPay and SmartPay+
- We automatically apply the electricity credit to your account.
- We send you an email and SMS confirming the payment.
- Check your new balance in the PrepayPower app.
- The transaction appears as Gov Elec Credit in your top-up history.
Classic Pay
- We text/email you a special Powercode worth €125.
- Enter the code on your meter keypad like a standard top-up.
- Press 1-1-1 to check your new balance.
- Hit 4 to see the code in your top-up history.
How Do I Claim My Government Electricity Credit?
Eligible customers do not need to claim or register for their €250 government electricity credit. The two €125 credit payments will be automatically applied to their accounts in November 2024 and January 2025.
PrepayPower customers will receive SMS and email notifications when their electricity credit becomes available. They can confirm their payment and new balance by checking their PrepayPower app or electricity meter.
Who is Eligible for the Government Electricity Credit?
Your household should be eligible for the €250 electricity credit allowance if:
- You have a registered domestic electricity account with an electricity supplier in the Republic of Ireland.
- Your electricity meter has an ESB Networks Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN).
- Your account is classified as a domestic customer by the following dates: October 30th, 2024 (pre-first instalment), December 20th, 2024 (pre-second instalment).
Can I Still Claim the Electricity Credit Payment if I Just Switched to PrepayPower?
Yes. You can still claim the Government Electricity Credit if you switch to PrepayPower between the first and second payments. But it will depend on the date you joined our service.
You will receive:
- The first instalment from your supplier as of October 30th, 2024.
- The second instalment from your supplier as of December 20th, 2024.
