How do I activate my Emergency Credit?

The emergency credit option is only available for customers who have the PrepayPower classic meter installed at their property, and is not available to customers who have the PrepayPower Smart Meter installed at their property.

This is due to the PrepayPower Smart Meter having friendly hours built in to the meter which would do away with the need for emergency credit.

If you do not have the PrepayPower Smart Meter, and have the PrepayPower Classic Meter instead, you will need to press 0, and then # on the meter to activate your €10 emergency credit.

How much Emergency Credit can I use?

The PrepayPower Classic Meter comes with €10 Emergency Credit, available to use as long as you activate it whilst in a positive balance, just before you run out of credit.

If you have already run out of credit, you will not be able to activate your emergency credit until the balance is brought back into a positive.

I have the PrepayPower Smart Meter installed. How do I activate my Emergency Credit?

The PrepayPower Smart Meter does not have an option to activate Emergency Credit.

However, PrePayPower's Friendly Credit Hours promise that we'll never cut you off in the evenings. Therefore, if you run out of credit between 4pm and 9am in winter or between 5pm and 10am in summer your supply will not be cut off until the next morning. Also, we will not cut you off on weekends (Saturday or Sunday).

Furthermore, we will not cut you off if you run out of credit from 25th to 27th of December, on the 31st December or on the 1st of January.

However, the amount of electricity you use during these Friendly Credit Hours will be deducted from your next top up so we'd always advise customers to keep themselves in credit to avoid that rush to Top Up.

Do I have to pay back the Emergency Credit I used?

When you activate your Emergency Credit, your electricity will not be cut off until you reach a minus balance of €10, but your meter balance will continue to run into the negatives.

When you next top-up your meter, the negative balance will be deducted from your top-up, and the remainder of the top-up will be your positive balance.

I have no credit, and my Emergency Credit will not activate. What do I do?

It is not possible to activate the Emergency Credit whilst your meter is in a negative balance.

To activate your Emergency Credit, you will first need to top-up by enough credit to bring your meter into a positive balance, and then press 0, and # to activate your emergency credit.

You can check your balance on the PrepayPower Classic Meter by pressing 1, 1, 1.
